Ragazzo
Europe, summer 2001. The city of Ragazzo is experiencing the greatest restriction of social rights that the continent has seen since the Second World War: the borders are closed, the Schengen treaty is suspended, demonstrations and meetings are prohibited in some areas of the city, it is forbidden to hang clothes on balconies.Arrests. Identifications. 30,000 police patrol the streets and do not allow entry into the Red Zone, the place where the G8 leaders are holding the meeting.
Ragazzo, in spite of everything, lives the summer of the city: recently they have squatted with some friends a space that they have conditioned as a house, he is on vacation, he has time to listen to music, read, cook, fall in love... and to participate in the World Social Forum that has also been installed in the city and where more than half a million people discuss how this “another possible world” that for a year and a half has been imagined as an alternative to globalization would be. His destiny will be marked when he decides to stay in the Disobedient Column, which has proposed a peaceful action of civil disobedience: to violate the confinement of the Red Zone.
What to do in the face of the threat? Does a government that has to armor itself to decide have legitimacy? Who (and what for) makes violence serve? What is impunity? Is another world possible?
Ragazzo is a cry for life, for the dignity of personal stories, for the vindication of collective memory and of the History that the masters of the world will never write for us.
